The world’s largest producer of GMO seeds is being investigated by Federal Regulators regarding the incentive program for their Roundup distributors during 2009-2010.
Roundup is the world’s leading herbicide. Monsanto offers cash incentives up to $20.00 an acre to their distributors to buy the glyphosphate-based herbicide and Roundup-ready seeds. The company is now under investigation by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for their incentive program aimed at distributors who sell Roundup to farmers.
The cash incentive program, discontinued in 2010, was an attempt on the part of Monsanto to regain Roundup revenue which had deteriorated as a result of competition from China. It was also meant as a way to make Roundup more popular with farmers again.
